INAUGURATION OF THE WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT OF VAAS (72)
The inauguration of the new waste water treatment plant was held on September 19 th, 2009. This plant guarantees the treatment of wastewater in the respect of the strictest discharge standards; therefore it fits in with national policy of surface water quality improvement. The river "Le Loir" really deserves this attention : it is highly appreciated by the riverside for its landscapes and its angling and leisure spots. The site of the former plant is liable to flooding; in order to conform to the program of prevention of flooding hazards, the new plant fits in with the existing platform. Working in these conditions has required to have the old waste water treatment plant working while the new one was being built. A new discharge station has been erected in the locality called "le Pré aux Anes" in order to transfer effluent towards the new plant. The old aeration tank has been turned into a storm water tank to store excess effluent by rainy weather. Sludge coming from sewage are thickened on a draining table and stored in a silo before re-use in agriculture. In the end, NDEI has supplied a new and modern plant, in accordance with current standards and in respect of the Loir valley.
